At SPIC-Zuma Energía, we firmly believe that responsible energy development goes hand in hand with biodiversity protection. That is why we implement ongoing actions to study and protect bird and bat species in the regions where we operate.

One of our main efforts takes place at the Ingenio Wind Farm, located in Santo Domingo Ingenio, Oaxaca, within the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, a region known for its natural richness and species diversity.

In compliance with our environmental permits and as part of our sustainability strategy, we have maintained a continuous monitoring program for birds and bats. The goal is to better understand their behavior, record their presence, and establish conservation measures.

What Have We Discovered Through Monitoring?

Thanks to these actions, we have identified 488 bird species, including:

  • 20 endemic species, found only in this region
  • 9 quasi-endemic species
  • 284 permanent resident species
  • 147 winter migratory species
  • 54 transient species
  • 3 summer migratory species

Regarding bats, we have identified 56 different species, which represent 58.3% of the known bat species in the state of Oaxaca. Most of these bats feed on insects and fruits, making them key players in maintaining ecological balance.

Natural Allies of Biodiversity

Birds and bats perform essential functions within the ecosystem, such as seed dispersal, pest control, and pollination. Monitoring them not only provides valuable data but also promotes informed decision-making for their protection.

Our Commitment Continues

At SPIC-Zuma Energía, we will continue promoting strong environmental actions to ensure the protection of species present in each of our projects. We are fully convinced that operating with environmental responsibility is essential for a sustainable future.
