Chihuahua, Mexico, September 2024 - The 2023 National Atlas of Areas with High Potential for Clean Energy reveals that Mexico has a total installed solar energy capacity of 6,535 MW, with Chihuahua contributing 826 MW. Meanwhile, a study by the Autonomous University of Chihuahua indicates that the state has 8,660 km² suitable for the installation of solar panels, representing 3.5% of the state's surface area, and only 23.74 km² are needed to meet the state's energy needs.

As one of the states with the highest solar radiation in Mexico, Chihuahua is ideal for photovoltaic generation, a key sector for improving the quality of life in communities, promoting social development, and advancing the state's environmental sustainability. This positions Chihuahua as a relevant player in Mexico’s transition to renewable energy.

SPIC-Zuma Energía is one of the main private renewable energy generators in Mexico and the leading one in Chihuahua, where it operates four solar parks, one of which is located in the municipality of Galeana. Recently, the company signed a collaboration agreement with the current municipal president of Galeana, Ammón Dayer LeBaron Tracy, and his elected successor for the 2024-2027 term, Terry Francis Leany LeBaron, along with their respective teams, to promote the use of clean energy for the benefit of the municipality’s residents.

The goal is to carry out social investments in 2025, focusing on sustainability projects for the benefit of the Galeana community. Proposed projects include installing solar panels in schools and municipal buildings. Both municipal presidents expressed their desire to maintain collaboration with the company, highlighting the importance of promoting renewable energy in the region, as has been done in previous years.

Xie Tong, Chief Executive Officer of SPIC-Zuma Energía, mentioned, “The company aims to become a key player in the energy transition that Mexico requires, and Chihuahua has immense potential to become a leader in renewable energy. Currently, we operate 398 MW of photovoltaic generation capacity in the state, and we have a strong commitment to the well-being of the communities.”

Likewise, Diana Sasse, VP of Legal and Corporate Affairs, stated that “the company is willing to work hand-in-hand with local authorities to ensure that investments and projects comply with all regulations and contribute to the social development of the communities. We believe that a close collaboration between the public and private sectors, based on mutual respect and transparency, is key to the energy success of Chihuahua.”

Through these actions, SPIC-Zuma Energía reinforces its commitment to a sustainable and clean future for Mexico and its people. The company’s objective is to bring even more renewable energy to the entire country. In Chihuahua, the company operates four solar parks: Ahumada (144 MW), Rancho El Trece (36 MW), Torreoncitos (36 MW), and Santa María—the latter located in the municipality of Galeana with an installed capacity of 182 MW. Nationally, SPIC-Zuma Energía has a presence in Chihuahua, Jalisco, Oaxaca, Sonora, and Tamaulipas, with projects totaling 1.3 GW of installed capacity across Mexico.
