15, 2025 - Mexico City

Mexico City, 15 August 2025 – Mexico faces the challenge of meeting a growing energy demand while reducing its carbon emissions. Currently, 79% of the country’s electricity generation comes from fossil fuels, a dependency that underscores the need to adopt sustainable models that promote clean energy and community well-being.
In this context, SPIC-Zuma Energía, one of the leading private renewable energy generators in Mexico, presents its 2024 Sustainability Report, prepared by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) standards. This report highlights the company’s efforts and shares best practices in environmental, social, and governance matters across its six solar parks, two wind farms, and corporate headquarters.
“At SPIC-Zuma Energía, we believe that energy should be accessible and sustainable. Our vision goes beyond generating clean energy; we aim to be a key player in Mexico’s energy transition. Every plant, project, and employee is essential on this journey toward a brighter future for all,” said Richard Xie, CEO of SPIC-Zuma Energía.
With an installed capacity of over 1.3 gigawatts (GW), the company contributes to reducing more than 1.5 million tons of CO₂ annually. In 2024 alone, it sold 3,209,348 megawatt-hours (MWh) of 100% clean energy, sourced 48% from wind power and 52% from solar power. This amount of energy is equivalent to supplying, for one year, more than 1.5 million average Mexican households. These results strengthen the company’s position as one of the country’s leading private renewable energy generators, reaffirming its commitment to the energy transition and the fight against climate change.
In 2024, SPIC-Zuma Energía integrated sustainability into its strategy through actions such as the materiality study and the adoption of four United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
- Good Health and Well-being. The company managed a clinic in the municipalities of Lagos de Moreno and Unión de San Antonio, providing top-quality medical care to local residents and workers. In 2024, more than 1,300 people received medical attention.
- Quality Education. In the communities near the Reynosa, Orejana, Santa María plants, and the Jaguar Solar portfolio, the company carried out training and educational projects on renewable energy for schools, fostering knowledge and environmental awareness from an early age.
- Affordable and Clean Energy. SPIC-Zuma Energía operates solar and wind farms to increase clean energy generation in Mexico, maintaining a low energy consumption compared to other industries. By the end of 2024, total consumption reached 16,437.14 MWh.
- Life on Land. In line with biodiversity protection principles, the company has identified endemic species located within and around its operation sites, establishing monitoring and conservation procedures for species such as the burrowing frog and the box turtle, among others.
In the same year, the Mexican Center for Philanthropy (CEMEFI) recognized SPIC-Zuma Energía with the Socially Responsible Company (ESR) distinction for its social, medical, environmental, and educational space rehabilitation programs.
Other notable achievements in social projects included the signing of a collaboration agreement with the Chihuahua State Institute for Job Training (ICATECH), aimed at training and specialization in renewable energies, among other areas, as well as various volunteer activities to benefit vulnerable communities, where school supplies, toys, and laptops were donated.
Throughout the year, more than 70 workshops focused on entrepreneurship, education, and health were delivered; free medical care was provided to over 150 families; and more than 4,000 medications were distributed at no cost. In addition, the company contributed to the rehabilitation of three community spaces: a public gym, a school sports dome, and a student cafeteria. Foundations were also laid for a fourth project, scheduled for completion in 2025. Altogether, these initiatives directly benefited more than 2,000 people.
In terms of health, safety, environment, and quality, SPIC-Zuma Energía strengthened its prevention culture through drills, training, and health campaigns, with the aim of eliminating or mitigating risks across all its facilities.
In Jalisco, the company committed to reforesting 700 hectares as part of its environmental commitment, while in Tamaulipas it partnered with the state government to invest in projects with social development impact. These alliances promote community well-being and strengthen the footprint of public policies at the local level.
“For SPIC-Zuma Energía, it is of vital importance to contribute to the development and well-being of the communities where we operate, as well as to create synergies that strengthen and promote government programs and projects,” said Richard Xie.
Regarding supply chain management, the company approved a new procurement policy establishing a process for evaluating priority suppliers and reaffirmed its commitment to hiring local suppliers, successfully registering and validating 232 suppliers by the end of the previous year.
Through concrete actions and a long-term vision, SPIC-Zuma Energía reaffirms its commitment to Mexico’s energy transition for a cleaner and more sustainable future.
